Thesis

Long-distance communication has always been a problem. For a while, communication over long distances didn’t even exist, and that created conflict. But that all changed during the Space Race when the first satellites were launched into orbit. Amid the Cold War between the United States and the U.S.S.R, the countries turned to space to try and get military advantage over each other. In 1957, when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, both the United States and the Soviet Union thought satellites could be used for communication. In the years during, and after this point in time, satellites were used to increase communication capabilities.
